" KEYS TO MY STUDIO"

Chop Identification mark used especially in the far east.

I sign my work with my chop, a KEY, for several reasons. I think it fits my painting style better than the traditional western signature. I love using my KEY as part of the design of my paintings.
My paintings have many symbolic elements in them and my CHOP is no exception.The KEY, to me is a symbol of the freedom to explore, and to open the doors of my mind to creativity, and new ideas.

It is ironic, yet so fitting, that I was asked by the Lake Oswego Foundation for the Arts to paint a door for their fund raiser "Opening The Door to Art in the Community" Sept 2004. Check it out in "GALLERY I " or on their web site at www.lofa.org.

When I decided I wanted a CHOP, I got my inspiration from a series of paintings I did in 1996, called, " THE KEY IS IN OUR HANDS". I painted this series hoping it's symbolism would inspire each of us to make a difference in our own lives, and to have the courage to open new doors to change.

I hope you enjoy seeing these paintings, that influenced my use of the KEY as my signature chop, It has also become the name of my studio, KEY ART STUDIO, my web site, sonjakeyart.com, and my email address, keyart@comcast.net
